Curriculum

Quality teaching and learning at St Agnes ensures that curriculum is delivered to meet the differentiated needs of all learners and provides challenges and support to shape the learning of each individual. The school is committed to supporting students to become autonomous learners and successful citizens.

Parents are provided with a class newsletter each term which includes a term overview outlining the class teaching and learning program.

Extra Curricular activities

Performing Arts

St Agnes School has an exuberant Performing Arts program that delivers extra curricular activities in which students may be involved.

Students demonstrate their Performing Arts skills, taking part in assemblies and performing in front of an audience during our End of Year Showcase. All classes incorporate theatre skills to prepare and practise an item for the performance.

Festival Choir is also offered enabling students to learn a repertoire of songs and to perform as part of the massed choirs during the Primary Schools Music Festival.

Instrumental Program

Students from years 3-7 can opt into an instrumental program to learn string instruments. They can hire or provide their own instrument and the tuition is provided at no cost. This is subsidised through the Department for Education. Voice, Keyboard and Percussion are also offered at a cost to parents for private tuition.

Instrumental students showcase their skills through performing for the community.

SAPSASA

South Australian Primary School Amateur Sports Association

St Agnes is part of the Tea Tree Gully district for SAPSASA. The school nominates for a wide variety of events for students to take part in. SAPSASA gives students the opportunity to represent their school and to compete against other schools in various carnivals and knockout competitions. Students can also represent SAPSASA at a district and state level.

Kitchen/Garden

The kitchen and garden program at St Agnes involves planned lessons in both the kitchen and garden for all students from Reception to year 6. Many volunteers join our kitchen/garden program to work with smaller groups of students to support them to learn lifelong skills and experience the fun of planning, planting, growing, harvesting, cooking and eating their own fresh vegetables.

The skills based learning that occurs in the kitchen/garden is incorporated into everyday classroom learning experiences.

  • Thursday 9.00am – 10.00am & 1.00pm – 2.00pm

** For ongoing pastoral care, a signed parental consent form is required.

Barbie works in co-operation with leadership and staff to support students in classrooms, groups or one-on-one. In a Government School, the Pastoral Care Program is a service of Pastoral care for students, families and staff who want this support. The role is respectful and inclusive of everyone within the school community.

Preschool

The onsite Preschool is located in the West Unit alongside the early years classes. Our staff have high levels of expertise in Early Years Education. We offer programs to support children’s early development in an educational setting. The Early Years Learning Framework is the curriculum delivered and is based on the following learning outcomes:

Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world

Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing

Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners

Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators

A Quality Improvement Plan is created in Preschool to ensure that our site is continually working towards goals that promote children’s learning.

Preschool children often have opportunities to be included in whole school events. These include our end of year celebrations, Harmony Day, Sports Day and Assembly. Pre-school has access to the computer suite, specialist teachers, gymnasium, oval, playgrounds and resource centre. These experiences provide a varying learning environment for children, and support the transition from Preschool to School.

Transition Visits

There are two transition visits to St Agnes School during term 4. Children are placed where possible with their class teacher for the following year.

 

Enrolments

Children who turn four before May 1, can start Preschool on the first day of Term One of that year. Children who turn four years old from May 1 to October 31 can commence Preschool at the start of Term 3 in that year. Children are eligible to access 15hours of Preschool per week.

We welcome any enquiries and offer tours of the Preschool through the school front office.

Parent Contribution

A parent contribution is payable each term. This is used to cover costs associated with the Preschool Learning Programme.

Play Group

St Agnes Playgroup offers a chance for children to play, learn and develop in a safe environment. It also offers parents, grandparents and caregivers a chance to meet others, make friends and enjoy a chat.

Parents/grandparents/caregivers are required to stay for the duration, to supervise their child and to support the Playgroup co-ordinator with the day to day running of Playgroup including setting up, cleaning up and packing up.

Playgroup is held every Friday morning from 9am to 11am in the OSHC building.

Our Playgroup offers a large range of indoor and outdoor toys and equipment, craft activities, play-doh and books and puzzles. We use the sandpit, nature play, cubby house and outdoor equipment in the Preschool. Each session will have a planned activity as well as time for children to play together.

Please bring a piece of fruit or healthy snack for shared morning tea (we are a nut-aware school), a drink bottle and a hat for outside play.

A gold coin donation is requested each week to go towards ongoing costs.

OSHC

The school has an Out of School Hours Care program that is available on a regular or occasional basis from 7.00 am to 8.30 am each morning and from 3.00pm to 6.00pm in the evening.

On Pupil free days they are also open for care if student attendance is 14 or more. This requires booking in advance.

When booking, please use the link below provided for our FullyBooked system, this web link can be accessed on your computer, tablet or smart phone. It is recommended by the service, for convenient access, that you add this link as a bookmark to your home screen so it appears as an app.

When accessing the FullyBooked portal for the first time, all new families will be prompted to “create an account”. Please note: bookings are unable to be made until all compulsory questions, which are marked with an asterisk (*), have been answered. Please ensure that both parent and emergency contact information are completed, along with the child’s information, and the direct debit transaction with Ezidebit has been scheduled.

YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE BOOKINGS UNTIL THESE STEPS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED

Once the set up process has been completed, a calendar will then appear, indicating bookings can now be made. Please note: you will need to click the down arrow that says Please select a care type to select the booking type you require, e.g. Before school care, Vacation care, Pupil Free day, after which, you need to select the specific child the booking is in reference to. If you have more than one child, this process will need to be completed for each individual child, as due to the system, bookings are made separately.

ACCOUNTS – Please be aware that the method of accessing statements has now changed. Previously families were emailed an invoice each fortnight, this is now no longer the case. You will now be sent a notification through the FullyBooked portal indicating that your statement is available for viewing. To access your statement, you will need to login to the FullyBooked portal. Once direct debit has been scheduled, meaning your credit card or bank account details have been entered on the system, your fees will automatically be deducted at 9am on the Friday of the week your notification was sent. Please Note: Any failed payments will incur an additional $14.80 applied to the account. If 2 failed payments occur, all future bookings will be cancelled.

The Centrelink ‘Activity Test’ determines how many funded days of vacation care you are entitled to. Please check your hours as 1 day uses 10 hours of Child Care Subsidy.

Contact us if you have any issues, we can help and fix up missing areas of your enrolment from our end. If necessary, EFTPOS is available through the OSHC office.

Please be aware of the cancellation policy for vacation care as it differs from the school term policy.

After School: 3:00pm – 6:00pm

(Junior Primary and Preschool students are collected from their classrooms.)
